Listen Up, Davos: Global health is good for business – the Huffington Post

It’s about 25 ° F in Davos, Switzerland today. Thousands of world leaders have arrived for the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF). This strong men and women will spend five days in advance which sets the course for 2012.

As an Ambassador for global health organization PSI and a member of WEF Global colluded, I really follow what’s going on there, especially since it includes a number of young leaders who will add their ideas to strengthen the global economy.

I really hope that the leaders of the world’s most powerful companies walk away understanding the importance of the global health economy. And that they make improving global health part of their business plan.

I can’t imagine that 2 to 3 billion people living in poverty — a lot of people in the developing world, where access to basic health care is limited. I just read that the poorest two-thirds of the world’s population has a US $ 5 trillion in purchasing power. So, with a modest investment in the delivery of basic health services, products and people who are struggling to survive could become more active consumers and producers.

New markets for goods (including products) will be developed, the economy will be more to life and the profits will go up. Most importantly, the mother will be healthy and children are regularly attending school. This really is a win-win.
